Mt Coot-tha Quarry History of Significant Events - 2000-2003
We believe that during the 1990"s decade, that 1997 was set and known as the MCQ closure date.
During the period 2001 to 2004 a number of emails were exchanged between residents regarding the quarry operational noise
and dust issues, however we have not included them in this list due to privacy considerations.
Blastronics Employee Tony Zoitsas advises that:
1. Blast monitoring was also done inside the quarry grounds. This data was never published to EPA or in the Local Residents RTI, but would have indicated what the Basting was like at the closest homes and monuments.
2. The QLD EPA guidelines support the reporting of only the much weaker blast vibrations, as measured at the more distant Sussex St and Richer St locations.
BCC Mike Davidson responds to strong Basting threats and defines their policy to only use two (much more distant)
permanent monitoring locations (Sussex St and Richer St). There is no concept of a permanent monitoring site at or
near the homes on Mt Coot-tha Rd, (located opposite the quarry) which are much closer than Sussex St or Richer St.
LM Soorley replied to JH complaint stating that Bracalbar will reduce Mt Coot-tha Quarry operation, however he omits
to say that the Mt Coot-tha Quarry life has more than doubled.
